I really, REALLY love the expressions in this one, especially Saffron in the fourth panel. And her line “He didn’t even pay you? Jackie!” is EXACTLY what I said in my head when I read the preceding panel.
This page actually hits close to home for me. One of my sister’s friends often goes on these modeling gigs where she does hours of work, usually winds up paying for her own wardrobe, hair/makeup styling, and studio fees, while the photographer “pays” her in “exposure” and “pictures for her portfolio.” The girl insists that she’s doing this for fun and isn’t really serious about modeling professionally…which is great, because if she WAS trying to get a modeling career of the ground, she’s DEFINITELY getting ripped-off. -_-
Wait, she has to buy new sheets? Why not just have them cleaned? It has to cost less than $12. Poor Jackie. I feel so adrift like she seems to feel, and she and I are both at that stage where our dreams are fading from yellow to purple. It’s like wallpaper that looks nice when installed and then once it starts to peel at the edges, the whole thing is kind of ruined. (The Yellow Wallpaper reference, anyone?) I also am finding myself getting nowhere but older, and yet adulthood seems to have eluded me. I think that is a key definition of our generation- the adults who haven’t grown up. We try so many things in an effort to find what we want and end up with a whole lot of experiences that don’t look good on a resume. However, we are also a generation that will have a lot of amazing experiences because of that, and pictures to prove every step. :3
Saffron bought the sheets at the thrift store next door to the photo studio. She just wants to be paid back for them since they were for Jackie’s fiasco.
